Congratulations to the Hyundai Elantra on winning the 2012 North American Car of the Year award!  The North American Car of the Year award is determined by an independent panel of 50 automotive journalists, and is most sought-after automotive award in North America.  “It’s an amazingly competitive segment,” says John Krafcik, CEO of Hyundai North America. “To have this honor feels really good.”

The Elantra, which was completely redesigned for the 2011 model year, sold over 186,000 units last year; a 41% increase over sales in 2010.  So how much will the Car of the Year award boost Elantra sales? According to Krafcik, Hyundai is already selling every Elantra produced by its Montgomery, Alabama plant, so Hyundai will have to increase plant capacity before it is able to sell more Elantras.

The 2011 Hyundai Elantra has a 148-horsepower 1.8L engine and the option of either a 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission. The Elantra Limited steps up the creature comforts by providing a power moonroof, leather seating surfaces, Blue tooth hands-free technology, heated and cooled seats, and 17″ alloy wheels.

The Elantra’s popularity comes from a winning combination of style, price, and fuel economy.  The sleek, redesigned Elantra starts at $16,445 and achieves 40 mpg on the highway. Be sure to test drive the award-winning Hyundai Elantra at your NH Hyundai dealer.
