Back when gasoline was hovering around $3.00/gallon, I wrote a blog post that gave you 5 easy tips for better gas mileage. Now that gas is at $3.43 (in NH) and climbing, there is a growing demand for more fuel-efficient vehicles. Engineers at the Ford Motor Company have been working on this issue, and many new Ford and Lincoln vehicles now deliver best-in-class fuel economy. The improved efficieny in Ford and Lincoln vehicles is a result of improved aerodynamics and fuel-saving technologies such as PowerShift (a dual-clutch automatic transmission), and the EcoBoost engine which operates 20-30% more efficiently than a conventional engine of the same size.
The 2011 Ford Fiesta, 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid, and 2012 Ford Focus SFE are all EPA-rated at 40 mpg or better on the highway. In fact, the new Ford Fiesta beats both the Toyota Yaris and the Honda Fit by 4 and 5 mpg respectively. The 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid delivers 41 mpg on regular (87 octane) gasoline, making it the most fuel-efficient luxury sedan in America.
The new Ford Mustang, with its EPA rating of 31 mpg on the highway, is the only car in history to deliver more than 300 horsepower and more than 30 mpg.
The Ford F-150 beats both the Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra with a rating of 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.
The Ford Edge currently offers 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, but the upcoming addition of the EcoBoost engine on the 2012 Ford Edge will deliver even better fuel economy.
